She is the true example of a small town girl, who made it big in the tinselville. Hailing from a Rajputana Khandaan, actress Vedita Pratap Singh can be defined as the perfect blend of beauty and brains. During a candid chat with Nabanita Maji from OneIndia, Vedita narrated her entire journey from being the winner of MTV Model Hunt till her entry in the Bollywood. Here are excerpts from Vedita's interview:
How did Bhindi Bazaar Inc. come your way as a model?
I am basically from Lucknow. But, after landing in Mumbai, the city broadened my horizon. I got into the modelling industry and won MTV Model Hunt. I did few commercials and many photo shoots. Finally, my dream came true when the film Bhindi Bazaar fell on my laps. I did it. The movie got me noticed to the world and I received critical acclaims for my role as Shabana. It was my first successful Bollywood break and just loved it.
Few days back, a controversy did hit the headlines after Veena Malik intentionally pushed you during the shooting of the film Mumbai 125 kms. What actually happened?
I wouldn't prefer to talk about it anymore. I don't want to be known for controversies, I want my acting to speak. I just want to stay away from it.
Tell us something about your upcoming film Mumbai 125 kms.
Mumbai 125 kms is a 3D Horror movie. The film is almost done and we are on the ending bit. The other casts of the film are Karanveer Vohra, Veena Malik, Vijay, Aparna and a new comer Joyee. Though I don't prefer to talk much about it, it was surely fun working with these people in the film.
What's your take on porn star Sunny Leone's debut in Bollywood?
Bollywood is great, they are giving opportunity to everyone. Sunny Leone is a porn star and since India has a huge population, it's natural that she would earn more name and money here. I think there should be certain restrictions over these porn stuffs, since it affects the growing kids.
Should porn movies be legalised in India?
This is a very debatable topic and an individualistic choice. At some point, I feel yes. When something is not reachable to you, you tend to get it at any cost. Because porn movies are illegal in India, it's of more hype in the country. The excitement is not watching porn, but the excitement is more about breaking the rule and watching out something which is illegal. Once it gets legal, the people won't find any interest in such movies.
How far do you think that skin shows and sex scenes work for a film's success?
Bed scenes work a lot for a film's success. Talking about the reality, certain section of people want to watch it. For example, let's talk about the movie Hate Story, it's doing good. Sex is overrated in India. Sex in foreign is normal, but not the same in India. Hence, people are mad for it. People want to watch skin shows, producers make such movies and fetch money out of it, hence the movie does good business. Like my film Bhindi Bazaar, my role was that of a prostitute, so I had to do hot scenes. But, it is not necessary that I have to do the same every time.
Bollywood is dealing a lot with bold and sensitive topics like sperm donation and homosexuality, these days. What's your take on this?
People don't want to watch the same old romances. A certain section of society want to evolve and see something beyond and useful. Lot of people wants something different. Talk about Vicky Donor, Dev D, Dostana, people loved these films. Hence, filmmakers are making such films.
What do think about stripping queen Poonam Pandey?
I know her personally, she is a very sweet person. I knew her from before she came into the limelight. We did few Calender shoots together. If I talk about her stripping acts, I feel that might be her agenda. She wants herself to be known like that. She might be feeling that she can earn fame out of it.
Would you ever like to be a part of the Bigg Boss reality show?
Oh! Of course. It's a big platform. I would love to be a part of it, if given an opportunity.
Your dream actors?
I would love to work with Salman Khan and Ranbir Kapoor, they are so hot.
