Mukesh - an actor-cum-politician?

Born into a family of drama enthusiasts, Mukesh has completed over 30 years of acting in the Malayalam movie industry. He had begun his career by playing a series of slapstick comedy roles, and was often seen seen playing pranks on his friends. This was followed by a series of serious characters which helped him to establish himself as a leading actor. Mukesh speaks to Manorama Online about his political and professional ventures.

There are rumours that you would be competing in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections?
My name is often mentioned in the 'probable list' of candidates every election. There is nothing different about these elections.

Will you be competing?
Only time can tell.

Who?

None of the leaders have talked to me personally until now.

Will you compete if they talk?
It depends on the constituency and the chances of winning. We will think about when the time comes. Right now I am busy with my projects.

What are your latest projects?
The shooting of ‘Prakasham parathunna penkutty’ scripted by Jayamohan and directed by K R Unni will commence this month; A home production company  called Kalidasa International’s movie will start in March; ‘John Honai’ and ‘Peruchazhi’ in April. There is a stage show in the U.S.A in May.

The difference that marriage has brought to your life?

No changes so far. I have lived my life in the same manner for the past 10- 15 years. I pray that nothing ever changes.

Doesn’t life mean changes?

What is the point in making people say that he has changed after marriage? We should always remain as we are. Only that will render a 'Mukesh touch.'

Are you insistent that you would not change?
May be I will. Devika is not busy with her artistic events. I am with work as well. We hope to start living together at Kochi or Kollam from June 2014. That might induce some changes.
